HEaTED Eastern Region Network Meeting for Technical Managers, Technical staff, and Staff Development Professionals

Leadership and Management of Support Staff in Academia
On: Tuesday 7th Feb (10am-3pm)

At: The University of Hertfordshire, College Lane Campus  (click here for map and directions)

This is a free event – refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The HE environment is changing at an ever increasing pace.  The introduction of student fees and proposed changes in student quotas has led to restructuring, mergers, competition, flexibility and a hard look at quality in the provision of services and support.  It is all too easy to fall into the trap of getting bogged down in the administration of management, but we need to focus on how we can take our staff forward with us through these changes.

Outline of the day:

9:30-10:00 Coffee

10:00-10:05 Welcome Jenny Harman, Technical Manager and Helen Charlwood, Development Facilitator, University of Hertfordshire

10:00-10:35 Professor Quintin McKellar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire with time for questions/discussion
‘A perspective on current challenges in HE and impact of those on the Technical Support Community’

10:35-11:00 HEaTED Update – what can HEaTED do to support you?  Dr Rachel Crossley, HEaTED Programme Manager

11:00-11:15 Coffee

11:15-14:45 Leading Support Staff in Academia.  Suhel Miah, University of Westminster
