Dr Rachel Crossley
Programme Manager

Rachel took on the role of HEaTED Programme Manager following its move to Myscience in September 2011 and has overall responsibility for delivery and development of the programme. Rachel’s contact details are email: r.crossley@slcs.ac.uk or Tel: 07772 341 510.

Rachel graduated with an Applied Biological Sciences Degree in 2001, which included a lab-based gap year research placement at Horticulture Research International. She then went on to complete a PhD in Molecular Biology / Microbiology at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich, awarded in 2005. Her experience working with a diverse range of technical staff during her studying, gap year, and PhD gave Rachel a valuable insight into the pivotal role of this important community.

Rachel went on to work in Public Engagement and Business Development roles in the Faculty of Life Sciences at The University of Manchester, where she interacted very closely with the academic, technical, and administrative communities, as well as with external partners from other HEIs, the Education sector, Business, and the Public Sector.

In October 2007 Rachel joined STEMNET, and organisation dedicated to enthusing young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Initially Rachel was responsible for delivering a regional project, funded by the North West Regional Development Agency. When this project was successfully completed in March 2009 Rachel took on the role of Business Engagement Manager, overseeing the organisation’s engagement with partners from business across all industry sectors in the UK, and then went on to be the Senior Project Manager with responsibility for a joint project with London2012 and a range of commercial partners.

As a qualified Project Manager Rachel has a wealth of experience in directing projects and programmes across the Public and Private Sector. Notably, she specialises in taking on new initiatives and ensuring that they achieve their full potential – a task she very much looks forward to fulfilling with HEaTED.

Trevor Flack
Consultant

Trevor joined Myscience as consultant / associate on the HEaTED Project in January 2012. He will be developing resources to assist HEaTED members map progression routes and potential career pathways, and to record and reflect on their Professional Development.

Trevor graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a Professional Training and Development Degree in 2003. He embarked on this as a direct result of his training and development and Project Management work with Leeds Training Trust (LTT) where he successfully managed a diverse range of high-value funded workforce development projects. During his time at LLT, Trevor worked with diverse industries to identify skills and workforce development needs, and provide high-quality blended solutions. In this role Trevor also worked with the public sector and educational institutions to bring together a more cohesive and transparent working relationship built on providing ‘best practice’ skill solutions into industry through steering groups, seminars and projects.

In 2006 Trevor was tasked with opening a new learning centre for the construction industry sector and, having secured this, and through his established network, successfully secured contracts for high levels of funding to supplement the cost of skill solutions and workforce development programmes into the construction industry. During this role Trevor standardised portfolio development mapping competence requirements and identifying standard evidence examples within each skill discipline to ensure a seamless learner experience. Notably, the centre gained full awarding body status to deliver a wide variety of qualifications across diverse skills within the industry and, approved as both a centre of best practice and excellence for on-time delivery, high retention and achievement rates, high quality standardised portfolios and contract management.

Trevor has gained expertise and many skills as a result of his varied successful project management work within industry, the public sector and HEIs. The roles he enjoys most are those that require problem solving, development and project lifecycle management – skills he is eager to implement in his role with the HEaTED.
